Read This Before You Transfer Anything
Transfers are one-way and irreversible. Points that leave Chase for United are United miles forever — there is no transferring them back, and no customer service line that will undo it.
So the order always goes:
- Find the award space you want, in the partner's own search
- Confirm the price and that it's genuinely bookable
- Then transfer
- Book immediately — most transfers are instant, but not all
Never transfer because a bonus is running and you'll figure out the trip later. That is how people end up with a large balance in a program they never use.
Transfer Bonuses
Banks periodically run bonuses — 20% to 40% is typical — that make a transfer go further. Enter the percentage above and the table will show you exactly what it's worth.
A bonus is only a good reason to transfer if you were already going to. A 30% bonus on points you can't use is still a total loss.
Ratios Change
Partner lists and ratios move several times a year — programs get added, dropped, and repriced with little notice. The date under the table is when we last reviewed it. Always confirm the current ratio in your own bank account before you commit.
